Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the added 0.38%.

The best performers of the session on the were Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (TYO:), which rose 4.60% or 54.00 points to trade at 1,227.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Keio Corp. (TYO:) added 3.86% or 152.00 points to end at 4,091.00 and Ebara Corp. (TYO:) was up 3.42% or 80.00 points to 2,422.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Japan Steel Works Ltd (TYO:), which fell 5.42% or 373.00 points to trade at 6,512.00 at the close. Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:) declined 3.60% or 177.00 points to end at 4,744.00 and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:) was down 2.79% or 66.00 points to 2,300.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1966 to 1627 and 278 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 22.01% to 22.84.

Crude oil for January delivery was up 0.06% or 0.04 to $68.58 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $72.33 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.17% or 4.56 to trade at $2,671.64 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.51% to 149.83, while EUR/JPY fell 0.37% to 157.73.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 106.15.
